Artist Martine Emdur captures on canvas the otherworldly beauty of the water
If you were to spot a school of bobbing heads in the waters of Sydney’s North Bondi, diving into the depths, dodging waves and swimming in formation, you might think you’d sighted a particularly plucky aquarobics class. In fact, it’s celebrated artist and Bondi local Martine Emdur at work, accompanied by friends, neighbours, strangers and anyone else prepared to swim out beyond the flags to be photographed under the sea.
